Here on our channel we share our assortment of chickens among other things. So far we have Barred Plymouth Rock, Ameraucana, English Orpington, Jersey Giant, and Silver Laced Wyandotte. We have big plans to add to the flock with a lot more very special and rare heritage breeds.
In addition to chickens, our family, here on Pitchkettle Acres Homestead, is focused on building a more self-sustainable lifestyle. We are self-employed small business owners, we homeschool our three childers, we garden for food, we do our best to shop local and we are LOVING this lifestyle. On the horizon, we see more animals, bigger gardens, deeper connections and relationships. All while documenting it here on our youtube channel.

I only buy heritage breeds
Santanam5718 is just a discourager keep up the good work. 👍🏻
They are loving sweet babies!!! The ones I have are absolutely wonderful and smart and beautiful and just make me happy.
Can you do this and breed fish in it like catfish and bass and etc to catch and sell it make a living?
Awesome video. I enjoy it and learn some from it. Thanks! BTW Lovely chickens
What a lovely sight!
❤🐣
It was said food should be available to them all the time. When not free ranging substituting with other food source is needed? What feed in the bag you are giving them. I know it is hen house reserve just don't know what it is.
I have pet hen and rooster, they are my kids , they are kind and loyal ,they do understand love and affection and they love me so much 💕💕💕 💕💕 beautiful birds on our planet thank you god🐓🐓🐓🐓🥰🌎🙏
I don't wanna dash your hopes and dreams but...
You won’t :)
I’m going to build a big pond not by hand but I am using a mini excavator and a small dump truck.
how many days of work did you say that was? you mean 10 min each day right?
Roughly 10 minutes per load to dig, haul and dump. So a 3-load-day takes 45 total minutes to get everything together, do the work and put it all away.
If you insist upon digging the whole thing by hand, I would recommend getting a Pulaski or grub hoe. This way you can loosen up the soil using different methods, switching from one muscle group to another so you don’t tire as quickly.
I have a pickaxe and Pulaski how that I’ll start using once I get through this top grass layer :)
That’s just embarrassing, bro just embarrassing for three days😅😂
Not really. Just putting in the work. Can’t be scared to do work.
Buddy i got a tractor with a bucket if you wanna borrow it
I have access to an excavator and a skid steer. Could have this done in a few days. But I want to see how far I can go doing this by hand. :) A great way to stay in shape and suffer a little in this summer heat 🤙🏼 I appreciate it though!
Three days what the fuck bro I could’ve done that in three hours😅. Yep you’re definitely Caucasian well white.😂
It’s easier to dig if you have wet soil, not soaking wet just wet. The shovel cuts easier and it’s easier on you.
If it took u 3 days to dig that much you are fucking gay 😂
Why not use the scoops to line the perimeter of how big
When I worked for a utility company, I would often dig 3'x4x5' holes multiple times per day. Good exercise! Keep at it, looks like you have easy soil and few rocks. Should be a satisfying task.
Thanks 👍
And this is three #1 reason I bought a tractor with backhoe. My back says F hand digging
I back has a few miles left in it so I’m trying to see how far I can go. I’m sure I’ll eventually use the excavator and skid steer
@pitchkettle as I tell my 60 year old neighbors who still do things by hand... take the tractor you know where the keys are! 😆. My back is toast from the military I can't even look at a shovel without needing 3 days off work.
Dam dude rent a skid steer
I have access to a small excavator and a skid steer but I want to do this job by hand (for as long as I can take it haha)
@pitchkettle I am with @jerrywtf9053. Use that excavator when it is that hot, dehydration is real. Especially when you have to dig several feet down for the desired depth of the pond.

Like eating an elephant, one bite at a time
That’s right
Do it in the dark dude.
Seriously considering it
I’m wondering where you’re going to put the dock?
No plans for a dock since this will be a very small pond. But maybe one day :)
It took you 3 days to dig that? Or do you mea he lawn too cause if it took 3 days to dig i would expect a baby to be doing in by hand or a couple of moles.. 3 days???
About 30-40 min per day (I don’t have a lot of time to dedicate to this project per day, unfortunately.)
Love a good hard day's work
Same!
Looking good. I am about to start digging one behind my garden area, for fish and watering the garden. This heat though!!!
Awesome! And yes, this heat is intense!
Looks like maybe you sharpened that shovel. I could only do 2 loads of sand yesterday. Too hot. 2 days ago I blew out a tire and had to replace both of them. These have grease fittings so I should get more life out of the bearings. No rain in months so sand is very hard to shovel. I fill a bucket, then dump bucket into metal cart. Keep up the good work, sir ! -- North Central Florida -- 6.22.24
Keep up the good work!
What is your small business?
Thank you ❤ for sharing. It's one of my favorite times of the day with my flock, first thing in the morning, then again in the evening when they all do their cooing and they're giving good nights between each other
Thank you 🙏 for this video. This is exactly what I was needing. I have a question- is that brand of feed you use the best ? I am using Dumor brand . I have 8 chickens 2years old now. Egg production is always uneven. I have treated them lately for being egg bound. Starting to experience deficiencies on them. I’m trying to do the best to have them healthy.so I was considering changing their feed to the one you use. Your thoughts are appreciated. Thank you 🙏 again
Ha ha..that's exactly what's happening to me right now. Got young turkeys as well! 😃🐓🐤🦃
Love the last line about how wonderful chickens are. 100% agree
I told you, sir. Take a rotary grinder and SHARPEN the cutting edge of the round shovel. DO NOT use a flat shovel. This is easy and will make that shovel slice through dirt. This is a big effort and if bacon grease on the shovel worked...I would tell you. But no grease. -- North Central Florida -- 6.17.24
This video brought me so much peace and brought me to tears, thank you for this moment ❤I so mu h just want peace and happiness 😢
Well put
Just rent a mini-ex?
Panda is adorable! They all are so cute! The grey ones always turn out beautiful, but I'm biased LOL. I have one, I call her Dorothy, (the mother was an easter egger with gold, brown and black feathers, and the rooster was a black astralorp). Dorothy hatched out a beautiful medium grey, but turned into medium silverish grey with 2 black feathers in each wing. Her eggs are olive color. I recently hatched 2 of hers, but this time the rooster was a dark brahma, and oh my, they are so adorable. Can't wait to see what their offspring looks like :) Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out too, hope you keep us posted.
All the babies❤❤❤❤❤❤
5:40 - No air filter ? Big dust cloud below it. Ahhhh....doesn't need one. You can zip tie a $3 filter on that carb, ya know. Hey man, I have a spare choke control rod. You need a care package. -- North Central Florida -- No rain 10 weeks. -- Terrible drought. 6.16.2024
You can do it, keep up the hand digging
🎉❤
Babies!
This is by hand. What's wrong with people? Much respect for you.
😮 what a comment, what did they want, you to dig with bare hands?
I think so ha ha
Damn dude. Spend some money and rent a backhoe. You about a cheap bastard!
Too bad I live in an HOA, where having a rooster would be a dead giveaway that I have chickens. For the sake of keeping my forbidden hens, there can be no rooster. Thus, no unplanned babies. 🥲
Understandable. But sorry to hear that.
Keep goin brother
Try a pickaxe and a shovel
I have a pickaxe and will start using that once I get to the layer of clay that’s waiting for me :)
@@pitchkettle sounds like fun
